Home Up

We, the Trustees and staff of the Huntington Historical Society, want to pay tribute to our friend and associate Bernice Berger who passed away recently.  Bernice was a volunteer, past trustee, staff member and a beloved member of the society.  She was an important contributor to the ongoing success of the Society, and she will be greatly missed.

Bernice joined the Society as a volunteer in 1993, working with the curator, Mitzi Caputo, on the Society photograph collection.  She was very quickly elected to the board of trustees and she helped to carry the Society through some difficult financial times in the mid 1990's.

When the finances improved, Bernice was offered a paid position, managing the office.  She and Mitzi kept the office running, with volunteer assistance,  with bookkeeping, mailings the library and all other facets of the organization.  For years Bernice organized and ran two antique shows each year, taking care of interfacing with the dealers and all of the various details required by the shows.

For the past few years she worked in the Museum shop.  At all phases of her association with the Historical Society Bernice has been a solid contributor to the success of the organization and a well loved member of the Huntington Historical Society.

Some of the thoughts which people have shared  about Bernice:  "...an eager and dedicated worker and volunteer with a heart for the mission of the Huntington Historical Society" ..."an avid history buff" ..."fantastic friend" ..."terrific teammate at work" ..."articulate and knowledgeable" ..."cheerful" ..."ball of fire" ..."beautiful crocheted baby blankets and fun Christmas ornaments for her friends and family" ..."always willing to help" ..."generous" ..
